Biography of Dale Abercrombie
Born: February 2, 1951
Married for 32 years, 2 sons and 1 grand-daughter
|
| I was born on Groundhog Day, the 4th of 5 children,
the son of a preacher. My artistic abilities sprouted in church when I
was a child. I was not easily confined to a church pew, so my mother would
give me a pencil and some paper, then she would tell me to stop fidgeting
and draw something. When I ran out of paper, I drew on the inside covers
of most of the songbooks in church!
Throughout my school years, I loved my art classes
and was president of the Art club in high school. While in school, my work
earned a Best of Show in the Alabama State Fair, several Honorable mentions,
and four Scholastic Art Awards. I have been able to capture special moments at
Scouting events, which are displayed on a wall in the dining hall of Camp Comer
in Mentone, Alabama. I have also placed 2nd as "Best of Show" at "Art in Park
2004" in Foley, Alabama.
|
| Soon after, marriage, job and children limited
the time I devoted to art, but I still manage to delve into other mediums
such as pottery and stained glass, but my favorites are pen and ink, watercolors
and woodcarving.
Being a Scoutmaster for Troop 97 in Remlap, Al.,
for 15 years has given me the pleasure of designing over 40 patches, which
are now considered collector's items. Using pen & ink and watercolors,
I have been able to capture special moments at Scouting events, which are
displayed on a wall in the dining hall of Camp Comer in Mentone, Alabama.
My occupation as a builder also lends itself to
creativity in designing and building homes. The most satisfying part is
listening to someone's ideas and dreams, and then making them a reality.
Now that my boys are grown, I have more time to
spend in my shop, turning an idea into a tangible object.
Sometimes, I just
have to.......... make something.
