  FAQS and General Info~

  • Q. What type of wood is used for your fish carvings?
    Southern Yellow Pine, Because the grain gives a unique character and feel of motion and movement to each piece.

  • Q. How is the stippleing detail done?
    One dot at a time - 5mm or 7mm permanent ink.

  • Q. What types of wood do you use for turned hollow forms?
    Mostly Eastern Cedar, because the grain is so beautiful and interesting. I also turn pieces of black walnut, maple, pecan and oak.

  • Q. Where do you get the wood for turned hollow pieces?
    All of this wood comes from downed trees in storms or removed because of rot or decay. NO Live trees are cut for any of my turned hollow forms.

  • Q. How long does it take to make a fish carving?
    It depends alot on the type, size and how intricate the movement & detail are. Anywhere from 10 - 100 hours each.

  • Q. Do you take special orders?
    Yes, Both for carvings and turned items.

  • Q. How big of a turned hollow form can you turn?
    10" Dia. x 12" Tall.

  • Q. What types of tools do you use?
    Bandsaw, 5' Sander, assorted chisels, gouges, xacto and micro gouges

  • Q. What type of finish do you use?
    An oil base urathane or tung oil.
